The maker confirms that the gun was built in 1891 and sold to S. M. Mellor for the price of £23. S, M. Mellor represented Great Britain at the 1900 Paris Olympics and was a well known shot on the Isle of Wight. In 1910 he won the King of Spain Cup from King Alfonso XIII who was visiting Princess Beatrice at Osborne House.
