WEBLEY & SCOTT A RARE 12-BORE "THE FIELD PROOF GUN", NO. 6365, DATED 1902 the massive gun with 30-inch barrel, 2 1/2-inch chamber, with crusher turret above the chamber and 6 inches from the breach face, to measure proof pressure, falling block action, with the correct apparatus for ceiling mounting, together with 3 graduated pendulum swing scales, lead and copper crushers, etc
The gun is engraved with Kynoch Collection number 93/2065 and retains much original finish. The pendulum proof gun was introduced to measure recoil as well as proof pressure, a subject much investigated during the transition from black powder to nitro cellulose propellants. |
