The maker confirms that the guns were delivered in May and July of 1937 and confirm that the guns were engraved by Harry Kell. The records further note that the guns were "out in black" in 1936.

The engraving is typical of Harry Kell whose work for Purdey, among others, has become especially sought after in recent years.

Although it is not mentioned in the maker's records, it is almost without doubt that the engraving is by Harry Kell and displays all of his characteristic hallmarks.

The gun remains virtually unused and retains all of its original finish, the vendor stating that he has used the gun only on a handful of occasions.

John D. Sells is a well-known outworker to the Trade and the gun was completed as his own personal gun, the engraving reflecting his love of his home city. The gun was proofed in 1984 and completed at a relaxed pace over a number of years as other work allowed. The gun was engraved by Ken Preater and finished to the very highest standards.
